Our NEW Monthly Early Literacy Program!
What is early literacy?
Early literacy is the foundation of reading and writing skills, built through everyday, natural experiences. These can include talking, singing, playing, and reading. These skills focus on developing pre-reading abilities before formal literacy instruction.
Early Literacy Begins at Birth
Children learn about reading long before they can read words.
By doing simple daily activities-reading, talking, singing, playing, and writing-you help your child:
- Build vocabulary
- Strengthen attention
- Develop listening skills
- Understand sounds and rhythms of language
- Create positive associations with books
How do I get started?
- Visit our Children’s Desk to sign up and receive your packet.
- Complete the activities in the packet by finishing one page per month.
- Integrate these activities into your everyday routine
- Return your sheets each time you complete 3, 6, 9, and 12 months to receive a prize.
- Celebrate watching your child’s early literacy skills grow!
